Biography

Saint Thomas Hioji Nishi Rokuzaemon, a Dominican missionary priest, dedicated his life to the evangelization of the Japanese people during a perilous era. Born in Japan, his vocation led him first to Formosa (modern-day Taiwan) and subsequently to the Japanese archipelago, where he tirelessly preached the Gospel amidst growing hostility toward Christianity. His fervent evangelism and unwavering commitment to his faith made him a target during the severe persecutions orchestrated by Shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu in the early 17th century.
