Blessed Anton Martin Slomsek, also known as Anton Martin Slomshek, was born on 26 November 1800 in Ponikva pri Žalcu, Savinjska, Slovenia. He came from a humble peasant family in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and dedicated his life to the service of God and the Catholic Church.
