Pope Saint Gelasius II, also known as Giovanni de Gaeta, was born around 1058 in Gaeta, Italy. He began his religious journey as a Benedictine monk at Monte Cassino, one of the most renowned monasteries in Italy. During this time, he devoted himself to a life of prayer, discipline, and study.
