Saint Anne is widely recognized as the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the grandmother of Jesus Christ. She was the wife of Saint Joachim and, according to tradition, they were a well-off couple. The belief that Anne remained a virgin in the conception and birth of Mary was condemned by the Vatican in 1677. It is believed that Anne gave Mary into the service of the Temple when the girl was three years old....
