Saint Avitus of Vienne, also known as Alcimus Ecdicius or Avito, was born around 451 in Auvergne, Vienne, Gaul (in modern France). He was the son of Saint Isychius and the brother of Saint Apollinaris of Valence. Avitus succeeded his father as the Bishop of Vienne, France. As the bishop, Saint Avitus fought against the spread of Arianism, a heretical belief that denied the divinity of Jesus Christ....
