Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, also known as Edith Stein, was born on October 12, 1891, in Breslaw, Dolnoslaskie, Germany (now known as Wroclaw, Poland), as the youngest of seven children in a Jewish family. As a young girl, Edith Stein lost faith and interest in Judaism when she was just thirteen years old.
