Biography

Blessed Nikollë Prennushi entered the Franciscan Friars Minor in 1900, taking the name Vinçenc, and made his profession at Salzburg, Austria on December 12, 1904. He studied theology and philosophy in Innsbruck, Austria, and was ordained a priest in Salzburg on March 19, 1908. A gifted intellectual, he wrote poetry, books, and articles for numerous publications, contributing significantly to Albanian Catholic culture. He served the Church faithfully in Albania until the Communist regime seized power and launched a systematic persecution of religious life. Arrested for his faith and his influence, he endured imprisonment and torture. He is venerated among the Martyrs of Albania, heroic witnesses who refused to abandon their faith despite the extreme brutality of the Communist persecution.
