Biografía

Blessed √örsula Medes Ferris, also known as Sister María Natividad and Natividad Medes Ferris, was a Cistercian nun in the Congregation of Saint Bernard of Spain. She was born on 18 December 1880 in Algemesí, Valencia, Spain, as √örsula Medes Ferris.

Throughout her life, Blessed √örsula dedicated herself to a life of prayer and service to God. She entered the Cistercian convent and took her religious vows under the name Sister María Natividad. As a nun, she embraced the contemplative and monastic lifestyle characteristic of the Cistercian order, striving to live in accordance with the Rule of Saint Benedict.

Blessed √örsula's faith was tested during the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War. Amidst the chaos and violence that engulfed the country, she remained steadfast in her devotion to God and her commitment to her religious calling.

On 12 November 1936, in the town of Alcudia de Carlet, Valencia, Spain, Blessed √örsula and her fellow Cistercian sisters became victims of religious persecution. She was brutally martyred, shot in the neck for her unwavering faith and commitment to Christ.

Recognizing her heroic virtue and the sacrifice she made for her Christian faith, Pope Francis venerated Blessed √örsula Medes Ferris on 22 January 2015 through a decree of martyrdom. Her beatification followed on 3 October 2015, with a special ceremony held at the cathedral of Santander, Spain. Cardinal Angelo Amato was the principal celebrant for the beatification recognition, honoring her as a witness to the Gospel and a shining example of faithfulness in the face of adversity.

Blessed √örsula's feast day is celebrated on 12 November, the day she was martyred. Her life and martyrdom serve as an inspiration to all believers, reminding us of the importance of unwavering faith, courage, and dedication to God even in the midst of persecution and hardship.
