Beata Inés de Jesús

Blessed Agnès of Jesus, also known as Agnès Galand, Agnes of Jesus Galand, Agnes of Jesus of Langeac, Agnes of Langeac, and Agnese di Ges√π de Langeac, was born on November 17, 1602, in Le Puy, Haute-Loire, France. She was the third of eight children born to Pierre Galand and Guillemette Massiote.

From a young age, Agnès displayed a deep piety and devotion to the Virgin Mary. At the age of seven, she consecrated herself to the Blessed Mother, and by the age of nine, she began reciting the office daily in honor of the Holy Spirit.

In 1621, Agnès joined the Order of Penance of Saint Dominic at Langeac, France. Two years later, she became a nun at the newly established monastery of Saint Catherine of Siena. On the feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1625, Agnès made her solemn vows.

Throughout her religious life, Agnès served in various roles within her community. She was a dedicated choir nun, guiding the community in prayer. Her deep spirituality and profound insights led her to be appointed as the novice mistress, where she mentored and guided the younger members of the community in their religious formation. Later, Agnès became the prioress of the monastery, providing leadership and guidance to her sisters.

Agnès had a profound devotion to the establishment of the seminary of Saint-Sulpice. For three years, she engaged in intense penance and prayer, seeking divine intervention for the successful establishment of the seminary.

Blessed Agnès of Jesus was also known for her visionary experiences. She had the privilege of daily communication with her guardian angel, enabling her to receive divine guidance and messages. These mystical encounters strengthened her faith and inspired those around her.

On October 19, 1634, Agnès passed away at the Saint Catherine of Siena convent in Langeac, Haute-Loire, France, due to natural causes. Her holy life and virtuous character were recognized by Pope Pius VII on March 19, 1808, who issued a decree acknowledging her heroic virtues.

Blessed Agnès of Jesus was further honored when she was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 20, 1994. Her beatification highlighted her life of profound holiness, devotion to Mary, and unwavering commitment to her religious community.

The life of Blessed Agnès of Jesus serves as an inspiration to all, demonstrating the power of prayer, deep spirituality, and unwavering devotion to God. Her unwavering faith and connection to her guardian angel are a testament to her profound union with the divine.
