Beato Alejandro de Foigny

Blessed Alexander of Foigny, also known as Alexander of Scotland, was born around 1180 into a noble Scottish family. He was the brother of Blessed Mechthild, who also embraced religious life. Alexander's strong devotion and desire for spiritual fulfillment led him to join the Cistercian monastery at Foigny, located in the diocese of Laon, France.

Within the walls of the Foigny monastery, Alexander dedicated himself to a life of prayer, contemplation, and service to God. The Cistercian order, known for its simplicity, austerity, and focus on manual labor, provided an ideal environment for Alexander's spiritual growth. He demonstrated great humility, obedience, and a willingness to embrace the monastic way of life fully.

His feast day is celebrated on May 3, with some calendars mentioning an alternative date on August 6. It is worth noting that a fair used to be held in his honor at Keith, Banffshire, Scotland, reflecting the local recognition of his sanctity.
