Beato Amancio Marín Mínguez

Blessed Amancio Marín Mínguez, born on 26 March 1908 in Celada del Camino, Burgos, Spain, was a Mercedarian priest who became a martyr during the Spanish Civil War. Son of Julian and Alpina Marín, he grew up in a devout Catholic family and displayed a strong vocation to the priesthood from a young age. Known for his humility, kindness, and dedication to serving God and others, Amancio entered the novitiate of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, commonly known as the Mercedarians, on 3 October 1924.

After completing his initial formation, Amancio professed his vows as a religious Mercedarian on 26 July 1925. He then continued his studies in philosophy and theology, displaying a keen intellect and deep spiritual insight. Devoted to the charism of his order, which emphasized the liberation of Christian captives, Amancio was ordained a priest on 5 March 1932.

As the Spanish Civil War erupted in 1936, anti-Catholic sentiments and religious persecution swept across Spain. Despite the rising tensions, Father Amancio continued to exercise his priestly ministry and show unwavering faith in the face of danger. Recognized for his commitment to his faith and his willingness to serve those in need, he was a beacon of hope for many during these troubled times.

Tragically, on 26 July 1936, Father Amancio Marín Mínguez was martyred for his Catholic faith in Binéfar, Huesca, Spain. To this day, the circumstances surrounding his death remain a testament to his courage and steadfast commitment to Christ. His sacrifice and martyrdom during this turbulent period in Spanish history have continued to inspire countless faithful around the world.

On 19 December 2011, Pope Benedict XVI recognized Father Amancio's martyrdom by issuing a decree of martyrdom, thus acknowledging his witness to the faith and heroic death. This declaration set in motion the beatification process, and on 13 October 2013, Pope Francis officially beatified Father Amancio Marín Mínguez. The beatification ceremony served as a public recognition and honor for his supreme sacrifice, and his memory continues to be celebrated on his feast day, which falls on 26 July each year.

Blessed Amancio Marín Mínguez's life is a shining example of faith, devotion, and courage in the face of adversity. His martyrdom serves as a reminder of the price many paid for their beliefs during the Spanish Civil War, and his inclusion among the blessed reflects the Church's recognition of his sanctity.
