Biografía

Blessed Antoni Tost Llaberia, also known as Brother Francesc Magi, was a devoted member of the religious congregation known as the Brothers of the Christian Schools. He was born on January 17, 1915, in Montroig, Tarragona, Spain. Antoni grew up in a deeply Catholic family and from a young age, he exhibited a strong inclination towards a religious vocation.

Recognizing his calling to serve God and others, Antoni joined the Brothers of the Christian Schools, commonly known as the De La Salle Brothers. This congregation was founded by St. John Baptist de La Salle with the aim of providing quality education to children, especially those from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds.

Antoni's commitment to his religious life was unwavering, and he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the education of young students. As a teacher, he nurtured not only their intellectual growth but also their spiritual development. Antoni exhibited great compassion and love towards his students, truly embodying the charism of the De La Salle Brothers.

Sadly, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Antoni's dedication to his faith and vocation made him a target of hostility. His steadfast refusal to renounce his religious beliefs led to his martyrdom. Antoni was martyred on July 27, 1936, in Balsareny, Barcelona, Spain. His sacrifice, motivated by his unwavering faith, stands as a testament to his deep commitment to God and his calling as a Christian Brother.

The holiness and martyrdom of Blessed Antoni Tost Llaberia were officially recognized by the Catholic Church. On June 22, 2004, Pope John Paul II declared Antoni venerable, acknowledging his heroic virtue and the sanctity of his life. Subsequently, on October 28, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified Antoni in a ceremony that proclaimed him blessed.

Blessed Antoni Tost Llaberia's life serves as an inspiration to all believers, particularly those involved in education and the care of the young. His selfless dedication, even in the face of persecution, demonstrates the transformative power of one's faith and the tremendous impact one can have on the lives of others. An example of a modern-day martyr, Antoni's memory continues to be celebrated on his feast day, July 27th, where the faithful remember his life and seek his intercession.
