Beato Antonio Martínez López

Blessed Antonio Martínez López, born on 8 April 1891 in Almeria, Spain, was a Catholic priest who served in the diocese of Almeria. He dedicated his life to the service of God and his community, faithfully carrying out his pastoral duties.

Recognizing the heroic sacrifice of Father Antonio Martínez López, Pope Francis declared him as Venerable on 14 June 2016, acknowledging his martyrdom. This recognition signifies that Father Antonio, by his martyrdom, lived a life of exemplary virtue, imitating Christ even unto death.

Subsequently, on 25 March 2017, in a moving ceremony held in the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Aguadulce, Almería, Spain, Father Antonio Martínez López was beatified by Pope Francis. Cardinal Angelo Amato presided over the beatification ceremony, marking a significant moment for the local Church and the faithful of Almeria.

Blessed Antonio Martínez López is remembered on his feast day, which is celebrated on 29 September each year, the day of his martyrdom.
