Biografía

Blessed Augusto Cordero Fernández, also known as Brother Estanislao Víctor, was a dedicated member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. He was born on 7 October 1908 in Bustillo de la Vega, Palencia, Spain. From a young age, Augusto displayed a deep devotion to his faith and a strong desire to serve God.

He joined the religious order of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Brothers, who are renowned for their commitment to education and the formation of young minds. Augusto embraced their mission, recognizing the importance of education in shaping the future of the society.

During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, when political and social unrest gripped the nation, Augusto remained steadfast in his commitment to his faith and his vocation. It was during this time that he bore witness to the persecution and violence suffered by many Catholics who opposed the prevailing ideologies of the time.

Tragically, on 18 November 1936, Augusto Cordero Fernández, along with many other faithful Catholics, was martyred for his unwavering commitment to Christ. He was brutally murdered in Lorca, Cartagena, Spain, becoming a testament to his unyielding faith in the face of adversity.

Recognizing the sacrifice and heroic virtue displayed by Augusto, Pope Benedict XVI declared him venerable on 16 December 2006, through a decree of martyrdom. This marked the official recognition of Augusto's martyrdom and the acknowledgment of his fidelity to the Catholic Church until his death.

On 28 October 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified Augusto Cordero Fernández, honoring his life and martyrdom as an example of profound faith and dedication to the Christian cause. His feast day is celebrated on 18 November each year, providing an opportunity for the faithful to remember and seek inspiration from his life.

Blessed Augusto Cordero Fernández's courageous witness serves as a reminder of the enduring strength of the Catholic faith and the sacrifice made by countless individuals during times of persecution. His legacy continues to inspire believers around the world, encouraging them to stand firm in their faith and remain committed to the teachings of Christ.
