Beato Bernardo de Rodez

Blessed Bernard of Rodez, also known as Bernard of Montsalvy, was born in 1040 in Rodez, France. As a young man, he entered the religious life and became an Augustinian monk. It was during this period that he had the privilege of being a spiritual student of Blessed Gausberto of Montsalvy, who greatly influenced his formation and spiritual journey.

Bernard resided at the Montsalvy Abbey, where he lived a life of prayer, study, and contemplation. His commitment to the teachings of St. Augustine and his ascetic lifestyle garnered the respect and admiration of his fellow monks. Recognizing his deep faith, knowledge, and leadership qualities, Bernard was chosen as the abbot of Montsalvy Abbey in 1079.
