Biografía

Blessed Casto Navarro Martínez, also known as Casto Navarro, was born on 1 July 1905 in Guadalaviar, Teruel, Spain. He was a devoted Catholic who dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel and serving God. Casto joined the Congregation of Claretians and professed on 11 June 1926, committing himself to the religious order's charism of apostolic action and missionary work.

After successfully completing his formation, Casto was ordained as a priest on 8 June 1928, embarking on a journey of selfless service and spiritual guidance. He zealously carried out his priestly duties, ministering to the spiritual needs of the faithful and promoting the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Sadly, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Casto Navarro fell victim to the anti-Catholic sentiments and violence prevalent at the time. He was martyred for his unwavering faith on 7 August 1936, when he was unjustly executed by being shot in San Sadurní d'Osormort, Vic, Barcelona, Spain.

Blessed Casto Navarro Martínez is remembered as one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their faith during the Spanish Civil War. His feast day is celebrated on 7 August, the day he was martyred, and on 1 February, as part of the collective commemoration of the Spanish Claretian Martyrs.

In recognition of his martyrdom and exemplary life, Casto Navarro was venerated by Pope Francis on 21 December 2016, with the declaration of his martyrdom. The beatification ceremony took place on 21 October 2017 at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain, and was presided over by Archbishop Angelo Amato, representing the Pope.

Blessed Casto Navarro Martínez's life serves as an inspirational example of unwavering faith, devotion, and self-sacrifice in the face of adversity. His heroic martyrdom and commitment to spreading Christ's message continue to inspire Catholics around the world to live out their faith authentically and bravely.
