Biografía
Blessed Celedonio Martínez Infante, also known as Fernando María, was a Spanish monk and member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He was born on August 30, 1895, in Acedillo, Burgos, Spain.
Blessed Celedonio dedicated his life to the service of God and joined the Marist Brothers, a religious congregation founded by Saint Marcellin Champagnat in 1817. The Marist Brothers focus on providing education to young people, particularly the disadvantaged.
During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, in which political and ideological divisions deeply affected the country, Blessed Celedonio remained committed to his duties as a religious brother and teacher. However, his faith and commitment to his vocation would eventually lead to his martyrdom.
On September 24, 1936, in Málaga, Spain, Blessed Celedonio was executed for his unwavering dedication to his Catholic faith. As a result of his martyrdom, he became a symbol of courage, fidelity, and sacrifice.
Blessed Celedonio Martínez Infante was officially recognized for his martyrdom and heroic virtues by Pope Francis on June 3, 2013, with the decree of martyrdom. His beatification ceremony took place on October 13, 2013, also led by Pope Francis.
The life of Blessed Celedonio Martínez Infante serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices and persecution faced by Catholics during a time of intense religious persecution. His memory continues to inspire the faithful and serves as a testament to the enduring strength of the Christian faith in the face of adversity.
