Blessed Cristobal Iturriagaechevarría Irazola was a Dominican friar who met a tragic fate during the Spanish Civil War, ultimately earning him the status of martyr for his Catholic faith. He was born on July 11, 1915, in Abadiano, a town located in Vizcaya, Spain.

From an early age, Cristobal displayed a deep devotion to his faith and a desire to serve God. Recognizing his calling, he joined the Dominican Order and dedicated his life to the pursuit of holiness and the salvation of souls. As a friar, Cristobal embraced a life of poverty, chastity, and obedience, seeking to emulate the teachings of Jesus Christ.

However, the socio-political climate in Spain took a turn for the worse during the Spanish Civil War, a period marked by violent conflict and religious persecution. On September 20, 1936, Cristobal was martyred in Sama, a town within the region of Langreo, Asturias.
