Biografía

Blessed Elias Garet Ventejo, also known as Josep Ceferí, was a devoted Monk and a member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He was born on 28 January 1905 in Centelles, Barcelona, Spain. From a young age, Elias exhibited a deep passion for the Catholic faith and a strong commitment to serving God through his religious vocation.

Having joined the Marist Brothers, Elias dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and education. He was known for his exceptional intellect and his dedication to teaching and guiding young students. His genuine care for his students earned him the respect and admiration of both his peers and those under his tutelage.

Unfortunately, Elias lived during a tumultuous period in Spanish history, marked by the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. During this time of political and social unrest, the Catholic Church and its members faced intense persecution. Amidst this hostile environment, Elias remained steadfast in his faith, demonstrating unwavering courage and resilience.

Tragically, on 4 August 1936, in Valencia, Spain, Elias was martyred for his religious beliefs. He bravely embraced martyrdom, refusing to renounce his faith despite the threats and persecution he faced. His martyrdom stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to his calling as a religious brother and his love for God.

Recognizing the extraordinary virtue and sacrifice exhibited by Elias, Pope Francis decreed his veneration on 3 June 2013. He was beatified by Pope Francis on 13 October 2013, affirming his beatific status as a blessed servant of God.

Blessed Elias Garet Ventejo's life and martyrdom serve as an inspiration to all who aspire to live a life of faith, dedication, and selflessness. His story reminds us of the immense sacrifices made by countless men and women of faith throughout history, and his intercession offers comfort and strength to those facing adversity and persecution in their own spiritual journey. May we look to his example and find inspiration to live our lives in service to God and our fellow human beings.
