Biografía

Blessed Elisabetta Canori Mora, born on 21 November 1774 in Rome, Italy, came from a wealthy Italian noble family. She was the daughter of Tommaso and Teresa Primoli. Elisabetta married Cristoforo Mora, a lawyer, on 10 January 1796. Unfortunately, their marriage was marred by Cristoforo's jealousy, control, and suspicion of Elisabetta's family ties.

Over time, Cristoforo's behavior towards Elisabetta became increasingly abusive and resentful. He eventually abandoned her and their four daughters, leaving them in poverty. Cristoforo even spent the family's funds on another woman. Elisabetta, dedicated to caring for her children, prayer, and serving the sick and the poor, found herself in a dire situation, forced to sell inherited jewelry and even her wedding dress to make ends meet.

Despite the hardships she faced, Elisabetta's reputation for holiness started to spread. People began to recognize her devotion to God, her compassionate ministry, and her caring spirit towards those in need, particularly poor families. She became well-known for her mystical experiences and reputed miracles. Her prayers had a profound impact, as after her death, Cristoforo underwent a radical transformation. He changed his life, joined the Franciscans, and eventually became a priest in Sezze, Italy.

Blessed Elisabetta Canori Mora's health deteriorated during this challenging period, and she fell seriously ill. She devoted herself entirely to her faith and the well-being of her children. Despite her suffering, she became a shining example of virtue, perseverance, and trust in God. Her selfless dedication and charitable acts inspired many, earning her the admiration and respect of those who knew her.

On the night of 5 February 1825, Elisabetta Canori Mora passed away in Rome, Italy. She was laid to rest at the Church of San Carlino alle Quattro Fontane in Rome. Through the years, her saintly reputation continued to grow, leading to her veneration on 26 February 1928 by Pope Pius XI, who declared her heroic virtues.

Finally, on 24 April 1994, Pope John Paul II beatified Blessed Elisabetta Canori Mora, recognizing her as a model of Christian virtue and an inspiration to all believers. Her life story serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance, faith, and love in the face of adversity.
