Beato Eliseo García y García

Blessed Eliseo García Y García was born on August 25, 1907, in El Manzano, Salamanca, Spain. He was a devout Catholic from an early age and felt a strong calling to serve God and others. Inspired by the teachings of St. John Bosco, Eliseo joined the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1932.

Eliseo committed himself wholeheartedly to the Salesian mission, dedicating his life to the education and spiritual guidance of young people. He showed great kindness, compassion, and a genuine interest in their well-being. Eliseo nurtured the hearts and minds of countless students, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Eliseo became a victim of religious persecution. On November 19, 1936, in Garraf, Barcelona, Spain, he was martyred for his faith. He was shot, bravely embracing his fate with steadfast faith and courage.

Eliseo's martyrdom and unwavering commitment to God's work did not go unnoticed. His reputation for holiness and virtuous life grew posthumously, leading to his veneration on December 20, 1999, when Pope John Paul II declared him a martyr. This recognition by the Holy See acknowledged Eliseo's sacrifice and his willingness to lay down his life for his faith.

On March 11, 2001, Pope John Paul II beatified Eliseo García Y García, elevating him to the rank of Blessed. His beatification further attests to his exemplary life and ultimate sacrifice, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.

Blessed Eliseo García Y García is remembered and honored as one of the Martyred Salesians of Valencia, Catalunya, and Aragón. His feast day is celebrated on November 19 and is also commemorated on September 22 alongside his fellow Salesian martyrs.

Through his life, work, and martyrdom, Blessed Eliseo García Y García stands as a shining example of faith, commitment, and selflessness. His legacy continues to inspire generations to serve God and others with love and devotion, following in the footsteps of St. John Bosco and the Salesian charism.
