Biografía

Blessed Emericus of Quart, also known as Émeric or Emerico, was born in the mid-13th century in the castle of Quart, Italy. Born into the Italian nobility, he was the son of James II, lord of the region of Quart. Emericus came from a devout family, as two of his brothers also had lives dedicated to religion.

In his youth, Emericus studied theology and excelled in his studies, earning a doctorate in the subject. With a deep desire for a life of prayer and contemplation, he chose to live as a hermit in an area known today as Valsainte. It was in this secluded location that Emericus dedicated himself to a life of solitude and fervent prayer.

Emericus' devotion and piety attracted the attention of others, and soon his hermitage became a site of pilgrimage and an oratory was established there. Eager to guide others in their spiritual journey, he became a cathedral canon at Sant'Orso in the late 13th century.

Acknowledging his wisdom and zeal for the faith, the Church appointed Emericus as the Bishop of Aosta, Italy in 1301. During his time as bishop, he became known for his austere way of life and his unwavering dedication to the salvation of souls. He tirelessly worked to spread the Gospel message and to bring people closer to God.

Blessed Emericus of Quart passed away on September 1, 1313, from natural causes. He was laid to rest in the cathedral of Aosta, Italy. In 1515, his relics were exhumed and enshrined, further solidifying his veneration by the faithful.

Recognizing his holiness and the impact of his life on others, Pope Leo XIII beatified Blessed Emericus on July 14, 1881, confirming his cultus. Today, he is venerated as a blessed within the Catholic Church.

Blessed Emericus of Quart serves as an inspiration for all Christians, reminding us of the importance of a life devoted to prayer, contemplation, and the salvation of souls. His legacy continues to resonate with those who seek a deeper relationship with God, and his intercession is sought by those in need of spiritual guidance and strength.
