Beato Emiliano Busto Pérez

Blessed Emiliano Busto Pérez, also known as Anacleto Luis, was a devout Catholic monk and a member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He was born on 5 January 1913 in Quintanilla de San García, Burgos, Spain. From a young age, Emiliano showed great piety and dedication to his religious faith.

Emiliano's calling to the religious life led him to join the Marist Brothers, a Catholic religious institute dedicated to educating young people. He embraced the principles of the Marist charism, which focused on the teachings of Jesus, the veneration of Mary, and the importance of education.

During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, Emiliano's faith and commitment to the Gospel were put to the ultimate test. As a result of the violent persecution of the Catholic Church during this period, he became a target for those who sought to suppress religious institutions.

On 23 August 1936, in Toledo, Spain, Brother Emiliano Busto Pérez was martyred for his faith. Despite the difficult circumstances, he remained steadfast in his dedication to God and his religious vocation until his last breath.

The life and sacrificial death of Emiliano Busto Pérez were recognized as a testament to his exceptional holiness and martyrdom. He was venerated on 3 June 2013 by Pope Francis with a decree of martyrology, acknowledging his heroic virtues and sanctity. On 13 October 2013, Pope Francis officially beatified him.
