Beato Enric Morante Chic

Blessed Enric Morante Chic was a Mercedarian priest who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on September 23, 1896, in Lleida, Spain.

Enric Morante Chic grew up in a devout Catholic family and felt a calling to the priesthood from an early age. He entered the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy (Mercedarians) and was ordained a priest.

During his ministry, Father Enric served diligently, working to bring the message of Christ's redemption and mercy to the people of his community. He was known for his compassion, humility, and love for the poor and marginalized.

However, Father Enric's life and ministry were tragically cut short during the Spanish Civil War, a time marked by intense persecution of Catholics. On July 25, 1936, he was arrested for his faith and taken to prison in Lleida, Spain. Despite facing threats and mistreatment, he refused to renounce his beliefs.

On that same day, Father Enric was martyred for his unwavering faith and commitment to Christ. He died a martyr's death, giving his life for his faith and serving as an example of courageous witness to God's love and mercy.

Blessed Enric Morante Chic was recognized for his martyrdom and officially venerated on December 19, 2011, by Pope Benedict XVI. His beatification took place on October 13, 2013, under the pontificate of Pope Francis.

Today, Blessed Enric Morante Chic is honored and remembered on his feast day, which falls on July 25th. His life serves as an inspiration to all believers, reminding them of the importance of remaining steadfast in the face of adversity and persecution.
