Biografía

Blessed Enric Salvá Ministral, also known as Brother Carmel of Colomés, was a devout Franciscan Capuchin brother who met a tragic end during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 21st March 1874 in Colomés, a small village in Girona, Spain.

Enric Salvá grew up in a deeply religious family, and from a young age, he felt a strong calling to serve God. Inspired by the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, he joined the Capuchin Order and took on the religious name of Brother Carmel. Throughout his religious life, he embraced the way of poverty, humility, and devotion that characterized the Capuchin tradition.

Brother Carmel lived a life dedicated to prayer, meditation, and selfless service to others. He was known for his kindness, compassion, and gentle nature, which touched the lives of many people who sought spiritual guidance or solace. His constant pursuit of holiness and his desire to share the love of God with others made him a beloved figure within the Capuchin community and beyond.

Unfortunately, Brother Carmel's life was tragically cut short during the tumultuous years of the Spanish Civil War. As the conflict escalated, religious persecution grew, and countless faithful individuals became targets of violence and oppression. Brother Carmel, committed to his convictions and unwavering in his faith, refused to renounce his religious beliefs even in the face of danger.

On 25th August 1936, in the town of Valls, Tarragona, Spain, Brother Carmel bravely faced martyrdom. He was brutally executed for his loyalty to Christ, becoming a witness to the Christian faith amidst the turbulence of the Spanish Civil War.

Recognizing his heroic sacrifice, Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed the martyrdom of Brother Carmel and officially venerated him on 28th June 2012. This important step toward beatification emphasized his status as a martyr for the faith. Finally, on 13th October 2013, Pope Francis elevated Brother Carmel to the rank of blessed, further honoring his life and testimony. The beatification ceremony took place in Tarragona, Spain, highlighting the local significance and devotion surrounding this beloved Franciscan Capuchin brother.

Blessed Enric Salvá Ministral, also known as Brother Carmel of Colomés, remains an inspiration to all believers, encouraging us to stand firm in our convictions and to follow the path of Christ, despite the challenges and dangers we may face. May his example of unwavering faith and selfless love continue to guide and inspire all who seek to serve God and their neighbors.
