Biografía

Blessed Euquerio Llanillo García, born on 20th February 1914 in Solanas de Valdelucio, Burgos, Spain, was a devout Catholic monk and member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He lived during a tumultuous period in Spanish history, as the country was embroiled in the Spanish Civil War.

Euquerio Llanillo García dedicated his life to serving God and his fellow Christians. He joined the Marist Brothers, a religious institute founded by Saint Marcellin Champagnat, which focused on educating young people. As a member of this order, Euquerio committed himself to the ideals of Christian education and dedicated his efforts towards nurturing the spiritual and intellectual growth of the students he encountered.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Euquerio Llanillo García found himself caught in the violence and persecution that swept across the country. This conflict, marked by intense ideological divisions, led to the persecution of clergy and religious figures who remained loyal to the Catholic Church.

On 4th January 1937, in Madrid, Spain, Blessed Euquerio Llanillo García was martyred for his faith, becoming a victim of the hostility directed towards the Church during this turbulent period. His steadfast commitment to Catholicism and his vocation as a monk ultimately cost him his life.

Recognizing his unwavering dedication and sacrifice, Pope Francis declared Euquerio Llanillo García venerable on 3rd June 2013. This declaration acknowledged his heroic virtues and his status as a martyr for the Catholic faith. Subsequently, on 13th October 2013, Pope Francis beatified him, granting him the title of "Blessed" Euquerio Llanillo García.

Blessed Euquerio Llanillo García is remembered and honored on his feast day, which falls on 4th January each year. Through his life and martyrdom, he serves as an inspiration for Catholics around the world, reminding them of the courage and commitment required to stand firm in their faith, even amidst great adversity.
