Biografía

Blessed Eusebio De Las Heras Izquierdo, also known as Blessed Eusebio De Las Heras, was a prominent member of the Claretians and a martyr of the Spanish Civil War. He was born on December 16, 1913, in Gumiel del Mercado, Burgos, Spain.

As a young man, Eusebio De Las Heras felt a strong calling to religious life and joined the Congregation of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, commonly known as the Claretians. He dedicated his life to serving God and his fellow human beings through his religious vocation.

During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, when religious persecution was rampant, Eusebio De Las Heras fearlessly stood up for his faith and refused to renounce his religious convictions. In the face of widespread hostility and violence directed towards the Catholic Church, he remained steadfast in his commitment to the Gospel.

Tragically, on October 19, 1936, Eusebio De Las Heras was martyred for his faith at Mas Claret, Sant Pere dels Arquells, Lleida, Spain. He valiantly endured persecution and gave his life in defense of his beliefs, becoming one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs.

Recognizing the holiness and martyrdom of Eusebio De Las Heras, Pope Francis declared him venerable on December 21, 2016. His beatification followed on October 21, 2017, celebrated at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The beatification ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Angelo Amato, who represented the Holy See.

Blessed Eusebio De Las Heras Izquierdo's life serves as an inspiration to all who strive to live out their faith in challenging and dangerous times. His courage and unwavering dedication to the Gospel message continue to inspire believers around the world. As a martyr of the Spanish Civil War, he stands as a shining example of faithfulness and sacrifice.
