Biografía

Blessed Eve of Liège, also known as Eve of Saint-Martin, Eve of Mount Cornelius, Eva of ‚Ķ., Evelyne of ‚Ķ., and Heva of ‚Ķ., was born around 1205 in Liège, Belgium. She hailed from a wealthy family, but despite her privileged upbringing, she chose to renounce her possessions and dedicate herself to a life of devotion.

In her pursuit of spiritual enlightenment, Eve became an anchoress at the church of Saint Martin in Liège. An anchoress is a dedicated woman who chooses to live in seclusion, devoting her life to prayer, contemplation, and service to God. Eve found solace in her commitment to God and lived a life marked by humility and selflessness.

During her time at the church of Saint Martin, Eve developed a close friendship with Blessed Juliana of Mont Cornillon. Together, they advocated for the establishment of the feast of Corpus Christi, a celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Eve played an instrumental role in continuing Juliana's campaign for the recognition of this important liturgical celebration.

Blessed Eve of Liège passed away in 1265 in her hometown of Liège, Belgium, succumbing to natural causes. She was laid to rest in the church of Saint Martin, where her relics were later enshrined in 1542, 1622, and 1746. These relics hold great significance for believers and are currently venerated in the Belgian cities of Ghent, Antwerp, and Liège.

In recognition of her virtuous life and devotion to God, Blessed Eve of Liège was beatified on May 1, 1902, by Pope Leo XIII. Her beatification acknowledges her exemplary holiness and the inspiration she continues to provide to the faithful.

Throughout her life, Eve demonstrated a profound commitment to her faith, exemplifying the virtues of selflessness, piety, and devotion. Her close association with Blessed Juliana of Mont Cornillon highlights her role as a devout advocate for the establishment of the feast of Corpus Christi. Blessed Eve of Liège remains an inspiration for all who seek a deeper connection with God and a life dedicated to spiritual pursuits.
