Biografía

Blessed Facundo Fernández Rodríguez was born on January 29, 1869, in Válor, Granada, Spain. From a young age, he demonstrated a deep devotion to the Catholic faith and felt a calling to the priesthood. Facundo pursued his studies and was ordained as a priest of the Archdiocese of Granada.

Throughout his ministry, Fr. Facundo dedicated himself to serving the spiritual needs of the faithful in Granada. He was known for his compassion, humility, and commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church. Fr. Facundo's gentle and loving nature endeared him to his congregation, and he became a beloved figure in the archdiocese.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Fr. Facundo became a victim of religious persecution. On September 4, 1936, he was martyred in Berja, Almería, Spain. Despite the danger posed by the circumstances, Fr. Facundo remained steadfast in his faith until the end, refusing to renounce his devotion to God and the Catholic Church.

After many years, on June 14, 2016, Pope Francis decreed the martyrdom of Fr. Facundo Fernández Rodríguez. This declaration recognized his heroic virtue and sacrifice for his faith. On March 25, 2017, Pope Francis beatified him in a ceremony held at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Aguadulce in Almería, Spain. The beatification was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato, a high-ranking Vatican official.

Today, Blessed Facundo Fernández Rodríguez is remembered as a symbol of courage and faith amidst persecution. His life serves as an inspiration to all who face adversity for their beliefs. The feast day of Blessed Facundo is celebrated on September 4th each year, allowing the faithful to honor his memory and seek his intercession for their needs and spiritual growth.
