Biografía

Blessed Florencio Arnáiz Cejudo, born as Florencio Sebastián Arnáiz Cejudo on 10 May 1909 in Espinosa de Cerrato, Palencia, Spain, was a devout Catholic who eventually became a Marianist brother. He is also known as Blessed Florencio Arnáiz and is recognized as a martyr of the Spanish Civil War.

Florencio entered the Marianist order, a religious congregation dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, at a young age. He embraced the charism of the Marianists, focusing on the Marian devotion and fostering spiritual growth and education. His commitment to his vocation and his exemplary spiritual life were evident to all who knew him.

During the tumultuous era of the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution was rampant, and many Catholic clergy and religious were targeted for their faith. Blessed Florencio, along with other Marianist brothers, faced significant challenges and threats during this period. In a time of great danger and uncertainty, he continued to live out his religious calling with unwavering dedication and courage.

Tragically, on 13 September 1936, Florencio Arnáiz Cejudo was martyred in Madrid, Spain. His strong faith and his refusal to renounce his Catholic beliefs led to his execution. Despite the immense hardships and persecution, he remained steadfast in his devotion to God until the very end.

Blessed Florencio Arnáiz Cejudo's exceptional spiritual life, his martyrdom, and his unwavering commitment to the Catholic faith did not go unnoticed. On 26 June 2006, Pope Benedict XVI recognized his martyrdom with a decree, granting him the title of "Blessed." The beatification ceremony took place on 28 October 2007, with Pope Benedict XVI officially declaring Blessed Florencio Arnáiz a beatified Catholic saint.

Today, the feast day of Blessed Florencio Arnáiz Cejudo is celebrated on 13 September, the day of his martyrdom. He serves as a shining example of faith, dedication, and self-sacrifice for Catholics around the world.
