Biografía

Blessed Francesc Canals Pascual, also known as Francesc Canals Pascual, was a member of the Claretians and one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs. He was born on December 1, 1891, in St. Andreu de la Barca, Barcelona, Spain.

Francesc Canals Pascual joined the Claretian congregation, formally known as the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, with great zeal and dedication. He embraced a life of deep faith and committed himself to spreading the Gospel message. Francesc's devotion to the Claretian charism was unwavering, and he served faithfully in his ministry within the congregation.

Tragically, during the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Francesc Canals Pascual fell victim to the violent persecution suffered by many Catholics. On October 18, 1936, in Cervera, Lleida, Spain, he was martyred for his faith, his commitment to Christ, and his allegiance to the Catholic Church.

Blessed Francesc Canals Pascual's life and martyrdom were recognized by Pope Francis, who declared his martyrdom on December 21, 2016, issuing a decree of martyrdom. This recognition elevated him to the status of venerable.

Finally, on October 21, 2017, Pope Francis officially beatified Francesc Canals Pascual during a solemn ceremony held at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The beatification was presided over by Archbishop Angelo Amato, who represented the Holy Father.

Blessed Francesc Canals Pascual stands as a courageous witness of faith and a shining example of unwavering dedication to Christ and the Catholic Church. His life is an inspiration to Catholics worldwide, reminding them of the profound sacrifices made by so many during times of persecution.
