Beato Francesc Casademunt Ribas

Blessed Francesc Casademunt Ribas, also known as Brother Benild Josep, was a member of the Christian Brothers and a teacher who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on February 5, 1872, in Llofriu, Girona, Spain.

Francesc Casademunt Ribas joined the Christian Brothers, a religious order dedicated to education, and dedicated his life to teaching young students. On August 26, 1936, in Tarragona, Spain, Brother Benild Josep was martyred for his religious beliefs. Recognizing his martyrdom and exemplary life, Pope Benedict XVI declared Blessed Francesc Casademunt Ribas venerable on June 28, 2012, through a decree of martyrdom. His beatification took place on October 13, 2013, celebrated by Pope Francis in Tarragona, Spain.
