Biografía

Blessed Francisca Inés Valverde González, also known as Victoria Valverde González or Vittoria Valverde Gonzalez, was a Catholic nun and member of the Calasanzian Institute, Daughters of the Divine Shepherdess. She is best remembered as the Superior of the convent-school in Martos, Spain, during a turbulent period in the country's history.

Francisca Inés Valverde González was born on April 20, 1888, in Vicálvaro, Madrid, Spain. From a young age, she showed great devotion to her faith and felt a calling to religious life. She joined the Calasanzian Institute and became a nun, taking the name Sister Victoria.

Sister Victoria dedicated her life to education and serving the community. She was appointed as the Superior of the convent-school in Martos, a position she held with great dedication and compassion. Under her leadership, the school thrived as a center of learning and spiritual growth, nurturing young minds and shaping their futures.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Spain was engulfed in a bitter conflict marked by religious persecution. Sister Victoria and her community faced increasing hostility due to their faith. Despite the dangers, Sister Victoria remained steadfast in her commitment to her fellow sisters and the children in her care.

On January 13, 1937, Sister Victoria, along with several other religious figures, was captured and imprisoned by anti-Catholic forces. She endured harsh conditions and torture, refusing to renounce her faith. Finally, on that same day, she was martyred and executed, dying a martyr's death for her unwavering commitment to Christ.

Blessed Francisca Inés Valverde González's life and martyrdom were recognized by the Catholic Church. On June 28, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI declared her venerable, acknowledging her exceptional virtues and martyrdom. She was further beatified on October 13, 2013, by Pope Francis, who proclaimed her as Blessed.

Blessed Francisca Inés Valverde González is a shining example of faith, courage, and selfless dedication. Her life continues to inspire people around the world, reminding us of the importance of steadfast faith in challenging times. As we celebrate her feast day on January 13th, let us honor her memory and seek her intercession in our own lives.
