Biografía

Blessed Francisco Alarcón Rubio, born on December 28, 1879, in Hinojosa del Duque, Córdoba, Spain, was a devoted priest of the diocese of Córdoba. He served the community in El Viso de los Pedroches, where he selflessly dedicated his life to spreading the teachings of the Catholic faith.

Throughout his priesthood, Blessed Francisco Alarcón Rubio worked tirelessly to provide spiritual guidance and support to the local people, promoting virtues of love, compassion, and forgiveness. He was known for his deep faith and unwavering commitment to his pastoral duties.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, when religious persecution was rampant, Blessed Francisco Alarcón Rubio remained steadfast in his faith and refused to abandon his post as a shepherd of his flock. Despite the risks and dangers, he continued to provide solace and comfort to those in need, never wavering in his courage and devotion.

Tragically, on October 8, 1936, Blessed Francisco Alarcón Rubio fell victim to the violent repression targeting Catholics during the Spanish Civil War. He was brutally martyred in Jaén, Spain, for his unwavering commitment to his religious beliefs and his refusal to renounce his faith.

In recognition of his heroic virtue and martyrdom, Pope Francis proclaimed him venerable on November 23, 2020. Following this declaration, on October 16, 2021, Pope Francis beatified Blessed Francisco Alarcón Rubio in a solemn ceremony held at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain. The beatification recognition was presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro.

Blessed Francisco Alarcón Rubio's life and death serve as a testament to his unwavering devotion to his faith and his commitment to serving others. His martyrdom stands as a shining example of the sacrifices made by countless individuals who suffered persecution during the Spanish Civil War. Today, he is remembered as a beacon of faith, an inspiration for all who seek to live out their Catholic beliefs with courage and love.
