Biografía
Blessed Francisco Delgado González, also known as Brother Antonio, was a Trappist postulant who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 28 January 1915 in Citores del Páramo, Burgos, Spain.
Francisco Delgado González grew up in a devout Catholic family and displayed a strong inclination towards religious life from an early age. He entered the Trappist monastery of San Isidro de Duenas near Palencia, Spain, where he embraced the monastic life with great ardor. Despite being a postulant, he had a deep commitment to prayer, meditation, and the contemplative aspects of the monastic tradition.
However, during the turmoil of the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution swept across the country. Francisco, along with many other religious men and women, faced extreme hostility and danger. On 3 December 1936, in Santander, Cantabria, Spain, Francisco Delgado González was martyred for his adherence to the Catholic faith. He became a symbol of courage and unwavering faith in the face of persecution.
For many years, Francisco's sacrifice remained unrecognized. However, on 22 January 2015, Pope Francis decreed his martyrdom, proclaiming his venerability. A recognition of his beatification was celebrated on 3 October 2015 at the cathedral of Santander, Spain, with Cardinal Angelo Amato as the principal celebrant.
Blessed Francisco Delgado González's life serves as an inspiration to all believers, especially those facing adversity and hostility due to their faith. His unwavering dedication to the monastic life and his ultimate sacrifice make him a powerful example of living out one's faith even in the most challenging circumstances. We honor his memory on his feast day, which is celebrated on 3 December each year.
