Biografía

Blessed Giusto Santgelp, also known as Giusto de Santgai, was born in France to a noble family. He embraced a life of service and became a secular Mercedarian knight, dedicated to aiding and rescuing Christian captives held by the Saracens during the Muslim occupation of Granada, Spain.

In the year 1284, Blessed Giusto embarked on a courageous endeavor to free 200 Christian slaves held prisoner by the Saracens in Granada. With unwavering determination and deep faith, he successfully negotiated their release, bringing freedom to those who had been unjustly enslaved. This remarkable act of compassion and selflessness demonstrated the profound commitment that Blessed Giusto had towards the liberation of his Christian brethren.

Following his heroic mission, Blessed Giusto devoted himself to a life of spiritual contemplation and lived within the Mercedarian convent of Saint Anthony the Abbot, located in Tarragona, Spain. Within the walls of this holy place, he continued to serve God and his fellow religious community members, embodying the ideals of the Mercedarian order.
