Beato Higinio Roldán Iriberri

Blessed Higinio Roldán Iriberri was a Dominican friar who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 11 January 1895 in Ollogoyen, Navarra, Spain. Although not much is known about his early life, it is believed that his strong faith and dedication to Christ led him to pursue a religious vocation.

Higinio Roldán Iriberri entered the Dominican Order and embraced a life of prayer, study, and service. Known for his compassion and humility, he quickly became a respected member of the community. His deep spirituality and commitment to the Gospel teachings made him a beloved figure among his fellow friars and the people he served.

During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution was rampant, and many clergy members were targeted for their faith. Sadly, Higinio Roldán Iriberri fell victim to this persecution and was martyred for his unwavering loyalty to his religious beliefs. On 25 July 1936, in Algodor, Toledo, Spain, he was brutally executed.

His courageous witness and martyrdom did not go unnoticed, and his sanctity became evident to those around him. Eventually, his life and sacrifice caught the attention of the Catholic Church, and on 26 June 2006, Pope Benedict XVI formally recognized Higinio Roldán Iriberri's martyrdom with a decree. His beatification followed on 28 October 2007, further affirming his holiness and the value of his life as a model of faith.
