Beato Isidoro de San José

Blessed Isidore of Saint Joseph, also known as Brother of the Will of God, Isidore de Loor, Isidoor de Loor, Isidoor of Saint Joseph, and Isidoro De Loor di San Giuseppe, was born on 18 April 1881 in Vrasene, in the diocese of Gent-Gand, Flanders, Belgium. He was the oldest of three children born into a deeply religious farming family.

Isidore developed a love for working the fields from a young age and found great joy in the labor of his hands. Inspired by his strong faith, he decided to become a Passionist lay brother and joined the congregation in 1906. On 13 September 1908, he made his vows and took the name Isidore of Saint Joseph.

Throughout his life, Isidore was known for his intense prayer life, deep simplicity, and extraordinary charity. He dedicated himself to living a life of service and exemplified the virtues of humility, kindness, and generosity. Isidore's spirituality was rooted in his devotion to Saint Joseph, to whom he had a special devotion.

In 1911, tragedy struck when Isidore was diagnosed with cancer, resulting in the loss of his right eye. Despite the challenges he faced, Isidore remained steadfast in his faith and continued to inspire those around him with his unwavering trust in God's plan. He bore his suffering with grace and offered it up as a penance for the salvation of souls.

Isidore's life was cut short by cancer and pleurisy on 6 October 1916 in Kortrijk, West Flanders, Belgium. His death was marked by a peaceful acceptance of God's will, showing his complete surrender and union with Christ's Passion.

Blessed Isidore of Saint Joseph's reputation for holiness continued to grow after his death, and he was officially venerated by Pope John Paul II on 12 July 1982. Recognizing his sanctity, Pope John Paul II beatified him on 30 September 1984.

Today, Isidore is remembered as a model of faith, simplicity, and charity. His life serves as an inspiration to all who seek to follow Christ, showing that even in the midst of suffering, one can find peace and joy through a total abandonment to God's will. Devotion to Blessed Isidore of Saint Joseph continues to flourish, and many turn to him as an intercessor for healing, strength, and spiritual guidance.
