Biografía

Blessed Jacinto Gutiérrez Terciado, also known as Diego of Guadilla, was a Franciscan Capuchin monk who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. Born on July 3, 1909, in Guadilla, Burgos, Spain, he dedicated his life to the service of God and his fellow men.

Jacinto entered the Capuchin novitiate at a young age and took the religious name Diego of Guadilla. Throughout his formation, he demonstrated great piety, humility, and a strong commitment to his vocation. Known for his gentle and charitable demeanor, he stood out among his peers as a dedicated and selfless friar.

As the political tensions in Spain escalated during the Spanish Civil War, Diego's dedication to his faith and unwavering support for the marginalized made him a target of persecution. Despite the dangerous circumstances, he refused to renounce his Catholic faith or abandon his religious duties, which led to his tragic martyrdom.

On December 29, 1936, Diego of Guadilla met his fate at the Santoña-Escalante crossing in Cantabria, Spain. Alongside many others who were targeted for their religious beliefs, he was executed for his refusal to abandon his religious convictions.

In recognition of his martyrdom, Pope Francis declared Jacinto Gutiérrez Terciado venerable on March 27, 2013, acknowledging his heroic virtues and his ultimate sacrifice for the Catholic faith. His beatification followed on October 13, 2013, when he was elevated to the status of Blessed.

Blessed Jacinto Gutiérrez Terciado serves as an inspiration for all believers, particularly during times of adversity and persecution. His steadfast faith, unyielding courage, and willingness to lay down his life for his beliefs leave an indelible mark on the Catholic Church, reminding us of the sacrifices made by countless martyrs throughout history.
