Biografía
Blessed James Bertoni, also known as James Philippi, was born as Andrea Bertoni to a poor family in Faenza, Italy in the year 1444. At the tender age of 9, he joined the Servite Order and dedicated his life to serving God.
Throughout his religious journey, James showed great devotion and commitment to his vocation. He advanced within the ranks of the Servite Order and eventually became a priest. His tireless dedication led to his appointment as the procurator of the Servite friary in Faenza.
As procurator, Blessed James Bertoni was responsible for managing the affairs of the friary. He executed his duties with great care and efficiency, ensuring the smooth running of the community. His efforts earned him respect and admiration from both his fellow friars and the people of Faenza.
On the 25th of May in 1483, Blessed James Bertoni passed away at the age of 39 in his hometown of Faenza. His death was attributed to natural causes. His remains were initially interred in the Manfredi chapel, but on the 15th of April in 1594, they were transferred to a new resting place. Subsequently, during World War II in November 1944, the church suffered damage, and Blessed James Bertoni was once again re-interred in the cathedral of Faenza, specifically at the altar of Saint Charles Borromeo.
Blessed James Bertoni's life and virtues continued to be cherished and celebrated long after his passing. His beatification took place on the 22nd of July in 1761, by Pope Clement XIII, who confirmed the cultus surrounding him. This recognition affirmed his holiness and the profound impact he had on the community and the Servite Order.
