Biografía

Blessed Jaume Codina Casellas, also known simply as Jaume Codina Casellas, was a Mercedarian brother who became a martyr during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on May 3, 1901, in the town of Aguilar de Segarra in Barcelona, Spain.

As a devout Catholic from a young age, Jaume felt a strong calling to consecrate his life to God. He joined the Mercedarian Order, known formally as the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, and embarked on a journey of selfless service and faith.

During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, Jaume Codina Casellas found himself swept up in violent persecutions targeting Catholic institutions and individuals. Despite the danger, he remained dedicated to his religious beliefs and continued his faithful work.

Tragically, on August 5, 1936, Jaume Codina Casellas met his martyrdom in Estercurel, Teruel, Spain. He embraced his fate with courage and unwavering faith, refusing to renounce his Catholicism even in the face of death.

Recognizing the sanctity of his life and the ultimate sacrifice he made for his faith, Jaume Codina Casellas was venerated by Pope Benedict XVI on December 19, 2011. Later, on October 13, 2013, he was beatified by Pope Francis, who officially declared him "Blessed." This beatification ceremony celebrated his heroic virtue and confirmed his standing as a model of holiness within the Catholic Church.

Blessed Jaume Codina Casellas is honored and remembered annually on his feast day, which falls on August 5. His courageous witness and unwavering commitment to his religious convictions serve as a testament to the enduring strength of faith even in the darkest of times.
