Biografía

Blessed Jaume Tarragó Iglesias, also known as Jaume Tarragó Iglesias, was a Catholic priest in the archdiocese of Tarragona, Spain. He was born on 19 December 1868 in Solivella, a village in the province of Tarragona.

Throughout his life, Blessed Jaume Tarragó Iglesias dedicated himself to serving God and the Catholic Church. He was known for his deep spirituality and his commitment to his priestly duties. He tirelessly ministered to the faithful, guiding them in their spiritual journey and offering them solace and support.

Tragically, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Blessed Jaume Tarragó Iglesias fell victim to the anti-Catholic persecution that was prevalent at the time. He was martyred for his faith on 28 August 1936 in Torredembarra, another town in the province of Tarragona. He remained steadfast in his faith, choosing to die rather than renounce his allegiance to God and the Church.

The courageous witness of Blessed Jaume Tarragó Iglesias did not go unnoticed. His heroic martyrdom and unwavering commitment to Christ were recognized by Pope Benedict XVI, who declared him venerable on 28 June 2012 through a decree of martyrdom. Later on, Pope Francis beatified him on 13 October 2013, in a ceremony held in Tarragona, Spain.

Blessed Jaume Tarragó Iglesias serves as an inspiration to all believers, reminding them of the importance of faith, even in the face of adversity. His life and martyrdom stand as a testament to the enduring power of the Catholic faith and the sacrifice of those who fearlessly defend it. On 28 August each year, the Church celebrates his feast day in honor of his memory and his ultimate sacrifice for Christ and the Church.
