Beata Jeanne Marie De Maille

Blessed Jeanne Marie De Maille, also known as Jane Mary de Maille, was born on April 14, 1331, at the castle of La Roche, in France. She lived a remarkable life marked by great sacrifice, devotion, and humility. Despite being married for sixteen years to the Baron de Silly, Jeanne chose to remain chaste, dedicating herself fully to her faith.

Tragedy struck when the Baron was captured in battle. Determined to secure his release, Jeanne sold all her possessions to raise the necessary ransom. However, before she could make the payment, the Baron miraculously escaped with the intercession of the Virgin Mary. Although joyful for her husband's deliverance, Jeanne found herself widowed and facing complete homelessness and poverty.

During this trying period, Jeanne's unwavering faith sustained her. By day, she spent her time in fervent prayer, seeking solace and guidance from God. At night, she sought shelter among stray dogs, finding companionship in their presence. Her dedication to a life of poverty and prayer eventually led her to become a Franciscan tertiary, further deepening her spiritual commitment.

At the age of 57, Jeanne settled in a tiny room within a church in Tours, France. Her remarkable humility and evident holiness attracted numerous visitors, who were captivated by her example and sought her counsel. Many of these visitors were deeply moved and inspired by Jeanne's piety, leading them to convert to the Catholic faith. Moreover, Jeanne's spiritual presence and intercession were known to bring about healing miracles, providing comfort and hope to those in need.

Blessed Jeanne Marie De Maille passed away peacefully on March 28, 1414, in Tours, France. Her death was a reflection of a life well-lived, marked by unwavering faith, selflessness, and service to others. Although not yet officially canonized, her beatification took place in 1871 under Pope Blessed Pius IX, who affirmed her cultus, acknowledging the devotion and veneration she receives from the faithful.
