Biografía
Blessed José García Pérez, also known as Blessed José Pérez García, was a devout Catholic and a novice in the Vincentian Congregation of the Mission. He was born on January 6, 1915, in Lavadores-Tuy, Poteveora, Spain, into a humble and deeply religious family.
From an early age, José showed exceptional piety and determination to serve God. His strong vocation led him to join the Vincentian Congregation of the Mission, where he pursued his religious studies and embraced a life dedicated to the service of the poor and marginalized.
Tragically, the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936 marked a dark period in the history of Spain and witnessed the persecution of Catholics. It was during this turbulent time that José García Pérez, still in the early stages of his religious life, was martyred for his unwavering faith.
On November 28, 1936, José was taken to Paracuellos de Jarama, in Madrid, where he was unjustly executed for his religious beliefs. His courageous martyrdom exemplified his deep love for Christ and his commitment to his religious calling.
Recognizing his heroic sacrifice, Pope Francis declared José García Pérez to be worthy of veneration on March 23, 2017, by means of a decree of martyrdom. This official recognition by the Church honored José's witness to the faith and his dedication to serving God's people.
Further honoring his memory, José was beatified by Pope Francis on November 11, 2017. The beatification ceremony took place at the Palacio Vistalegre Arena in Carabanchel, Madrid, Spain. The celebration was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato and Cardinal Carlos Osoro Sierra of Madrid, emphasizing the significance of this momentous occasion.
Throughout his brief life, Blessed José García Pérez displayed an unwavering commitment to his faith, expressing his love for God through service and sacrifice. His beatification serves as a testament to his remarkable courage and unwavering devotion, inspiring generations of Catholics to live faithfully and selflessly.
