Biografía

Blessed José González Ramos Campos, also known as the Ángel of Cañete La Real, was a Franciscan Capuchin friar who dedicated his life to serving God and promoting the teachings of the Catholic Church. He was born on 24 February 1879 in Cañete la Real, Málaga, Spain.

In his early years, José felt a strong calling to religious life, and on 24 June 1896, he joined the Capuchin Franciscan Order in Andalusia, Spain. After a year of discernment, he made his religious profession on 11 July 1897, committing himself fully to a life of poverty, chastity, and obedience. José's dedication and exceptional qualities soon led to his ordination as a priest on 26 April 1903.

Throughout his priestly ministry, Blessed José González Ramos Campos served in various roles within the Capuchin Order. He held positions such as Provincial Definitor and Superior at different Capuchin convents, where he demonstrated his charismatic leadership and unwavering commitment to the religious life. José's deep spirituality, combined with his affable nature, made him a beloved figure among both his fellow friars and the communities he served.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, political and social tensions engulfed Spain, resulting in the persecution of many Catholics, especially religious figures. On 6 August 1936, Blessed José González Ramos Campos was brutally murdered by Marxist militiamen in Antequera, Málaga. It is believed that he was shot in the back, a martyr for his faith in Jesus Christ and his dedication to defending and promoting Catholic values.

The life and martyrdom of Blessed José González Ramos Campos did not go unnoticed by the Catholic Church. On 27 March 2013, Pope Francis recognized his heroic virtues and declared him venerable. Later, on 13 October 2013, he was beatified by Pope Francis, acknowledging his martyrdom and affirming his status as a blessed of the Church.

Today, the memory of Blessed José González Ramos Campos, the Ángel of Cañete La Real, serves as an inspiration and example of steadfast faith amidst adversity. His selfless sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the Catholic Church continue to inspire Catholics worldwide. On his feast day, 6 August, believers commemorate his life and seek his intercession for strength and courage in their own spiritual journeys.
