Beato José Manuel Claramonte Agut

Blessed José Manuel Claramonte Agut, a Catholic priest, was born on 6 November 1892 in Almazora, Castellón, Spain. He dedicated his life to the service of God and became a member of the Diocesan Laborer Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Known for his deep spirituality and love for the Church, José Manuel devoted himself to the pastoral care of the faithful, proclaiming the Gospel and administering the sacraments.

During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, José Manuel Claramonte Agut courageously remained true to his faith, even in the face of persecution and danger. As a result of his unwavering commitment to the Church, he was martyred on 10 June 1938 in Vall d‚ÄôAlba, Castellón, Spain. It is believed that he was targeted for his religious beliefs and met a violent death at the hands of those who opposed the Church's presence and influence.

Recognizing the heroism and sacrifice demonstrated by José Manuel, the Catholic Church regards him as a martyr. Pope Francis, through a decree of martyrdom issued on 27 March 2013, officially venerated him as a blessed. Later, on 13 October 2013, Pope Francis elevated José Manuel Claramonte Agut to the status of blessed during a beatification ceremony. This event served as a public declaration of the Church's recognition of his sanctity and exemplary dedication to Christ.
