Biografía
Blessed José María Ruiz Cardeñosa, also known as Blessed José María of the Cross, was a Spanish Catholic Carmelite who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on July 26, 1902, in the town of Osuna, located in Seville, Spain.
José María Ruiz Cardeñosa entered the Carmelite Order and became a member of the Carmelites of the Ancient Observance. As a religious brother, he dedicated his life to prayer, contemplation, and serving God through his community.
During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution was rampant, and many clergy and religious were targeted for their faith. José María, along with many of his fellow Carmelites, faced immense challenges and trials during this time.
