Biografía

Blessed José Ruiz De La Torre, also known as Brother Candido Alberto, was a devoted member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a religious order founded by Saint John Baptist de La Salle. He was born on 26 March 1906 in Fresno de Rodilla, a small village in Burgos, Spain. From a young age, José displayed a deep faith and a calling to serve God.

Driven by his desire to dedicate his life to God and his fellow man, José joined the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Brothers. This religious order focused on providing education to children, particularly those from impoverished backgrounds. José's commitment to educating the youth was fierce, as he believed that education was a vital tool for personal and societal transformation.

Unfortunately, during a time of great political unrest in Spain, known as the Spanish Civil War, the Brothers of the Christian Schools faced severe persecution for their religious beliefs. José was a witness to the atrocities committed against the Church and its members, but he remained steadfast in his faith and dedication to his calling.

Tragically, on 3 November 1936, in Barcelona, Spain, José Ruiz De La Torre became a martyr for his Catholic faith. He was brutally executed due to his refusal to renounce his religious beliefs and abandon his commitment to education and service.

The life and martyrdom of Blessed José Ruiz De La Torre did not go unnoticed by the Catholic Church. In recognition of his unwavering faith and sacrificial life, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable on 22 June 2004, signifying the Church's acknowledgment of his heroic virtues. Later, on 28 October 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, declaring him blessed.

Blessed José Ruiz De La Torre's martyrdom serves as a powerful example of dedication, courage, and love for Christ and his fellow man. The memory of his selfless sacrifice continues to inspire many, highlighting the importance of faith, education, and the promotion of justice and peace in society.
