Biografía

Blessed Josep Castellcamps, also known as Josep Castellví Soler, was a devoted member of the Salesians and lived his life as a faithful servant of God. He was born on October 12, 1902, in Ciudadela, Minorca, Islas Baleares, Spain.

After joining the Salesian congregation, Josep made his profession in 1918, committing himself wholeheartedly to the religious life. His dedication and commitment to his vocation led him to be ordained as a priest in 1927, after completing his theological studies.

Following his ordination, Father Josep Castellcamps served as a parish priest in various Spanish cities, including Campello, Sarria, and Tibidabo. He became well-known for his remarkable preaching skills and remarkable ability as a writer. His powerful sermons touched the hearts and souls of many who listened to his teachings, inspiring them to walk in the path of faith and love.

However, Father Josep's life took a tragic turn during the Spanish Civil War, which erupted in 1936. As a result of the political unrest and religious persecution during this period, he found himself imprisoned for his unwavering commitment to his faith. Despite the difficult circumstances, he remained steadfast and continued to inspire and comfort his fellow prisoners through his prayers, sermons, and writing.

Sadly, during the night of July 28, 1936, Father Josep Castellcamps was unjustly executed, becoming a martyr for his beliefs. He bravely faced his persecution, demonstrating unwavering faith and trust in God until his last moments.

The courage, devotion, and selflessness displayed by Blessed Josep Castellcamps throughout his life inspired many, leading to his recognition as a martyr and a saint. On December 20, 1999, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable, acknowledging his heroic virtues. Later, on March 11, 2001, Pope John Paul II beatified him, recognizing his ultimate sacrifice for his faith and the Church.

Blessed Josep Castellcamps is commemorated on two feast days. On July 28 each year, he is remembered alongside other Martyred Salesians of Valencia, Catalunya, and Aragón, who also died during the Spanish Civil War. Additionally, he is honored on September 22 as part of this broader group of martyrs.

The life of Blessed Josep Castellcamps serves as a reminder of the strength of faith and the willingness to sacrifice for one's beliefs. His story continues to inspire believers to stand firmly in their convictions, even in times of adversity.
