Blessed Juan De La Cruz Herruzo Ruiz, also known as Father Juan De La Cruz Herruzo Ruiz, was a revered Catholic priest of the diocese of Córdoba, Spain. He faithfully served the community of Alcaracejos, exhibiting great devotion to his parishioners and a steadfast commitment to his vocation. Despite the challenging times of the Spanish Civil War, Father Herruzo Ruiz continued to provide spiritual guidance and support to those in need.

Juan De La Cruz Herruzo Ruiz was born on November 24, 1884, in the town of Obejo, located in the Córdoba province of Spain. From a young age, he exhibited a deep piety and a desire to dedicate his life to the service of God. This led him to pursue his studies in theology, eventually leading him to be ordained as a priest.

Father Herruzo Ruiz's ministry in Alcaracejos began at a challenging time in Spain's history, marked by civil unrest and political tension. Despite the difficult circumstances, he tirelessly worked to provide spiritual solace and pastoral care to the faithful of his parish. He was known for his compassionate nature, always willing to listen, console, and guide those in need.

Sadly, the Spanish Civil War escalated, plunging the country into further chaos and violence. Father Herruzo Ruiz's unwavering commitment to his faith and his refusal to abandon his flock made him a target for persecution. On August 1, 1936, he was martyred in Alcaracejos, Córdoba, Spain, for his refusal to renounce his Catholic beliefs.

His martyrdom has been recognized by the Catholic Church, and on November 23, 2020, Pope Francis decreed Father Herruzo Ruiz's veneration. This acknowledgment of his martyrdom was a testament to his unwavering faith and commitment to his calling, even in the face of extreme adversity.

Further honoring his sacrifice, Pope Francis beatified Father Juan De La Cruz Herruzo Ruiz on October 16, 2021. The beatification recognition ceremony took place at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain. The event was presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, serving as representative of the Pope.
